To meet customer application needs, Corry Rubber Corporation employs a six-step process for elastomer selection and physical property definition. Using our elastomer selection guide, our engineers work with you to:
- Identify the most cost effective elastomer for the application.
- Select a hardness range.
- Select a tensile strength and elongation minimum.
- Determine if the component will be used in compression, tension or shear or combinations thereof.
- Consider any mechanical properties that may be relevant to the application.
- Consider any chemical or environmental exposure issues.
- Determine if the application is dynamic in nature and the stresses and strains involved.
- Develop material specification compliant with ASTM D-2000 or SAE J-200.
To begin the process of elastomer selection, Corry Rubber helps customers determine the following:
- Is the application static or dynamic in nature?
- To what fluids will the elastomer be exposed during service?
- To what temperatures will the elastomer be exposed during service?
- Will the elastomer be exposed to the weather for long periods of time during its service?
- What is the desired service life of the elastomeric product?
- Is low damping or high damping desired?
